In this modern world, the term AI is no longer something new.
The development of AI (Artificial Intelligence) is becoming increasingly massive and spreading to various sectors, including the industrial sector.
Artificial intelligence is starting to be implemented in the form of robots and functions as a regulator, this is what we have come to know widely as AI Robots!
What is an AI Robot?
Simply put, an Artificial Intelligence Robot is a type of robot equipped with an artificial intelligence system. This gives the robot the ability to process information, learn from experience, and make decisions based on the data received or embedded programs.
AI robots can be equipped with various types of sensors to collect data from the surrounding environment. This data will be processed using certain AI algorithms to analyze the information and provide appropriate responses.

Based on research conducted by M. Sobron Yamin Lubis (2021) entitled Implementation of Artificial Intelligence in Integrated Manufacturing Systems, AI is defined as a computer system that can carry out tasks that usually require human intelligence.
The process includes: learning, reasoning, and self-correction, similar to the thinking process carried out by humans before making a decision.
AI robots are one of the modern technologies that are widely adopted in the 4.0 era. AI is able to connect various devices so that someone can automate all of these devices without having to be at the location directly. The use of AI Robots is expected to provide optimal performance through faster processes.
The following are the top 7 characteristics of artificial intelligence, namely: Deep Learning, Facial Recognition, Automate Task, Data Ingestion, Cloud Computing, Quantum Computing, and ChatBots.
Benefits of the Existence of AI Robots
The existence of AI in a robot allows it to adapt its behavior/actions to changes in the environment or task at hand. This makes AI robots more adaptive and flexible than robots that have ordinary programs.
Currently, AI robots have been used in various types of sectors, starting from industrial environments (manufacturing, services, trade, etc.), public services, transportation, and the like.
Based on the Indonesian Pranata Journal (ISSN 2746-7163) by Afrizal Zein from the Information Systems Study Program at Pamulang University regarding research on "Artificial Intelligence in Service Automation", AI can be used to carry out many tasks independently without further instructions.
Its thinking and analytical abilities make this smart robot capable of doing work automatically. Not only in terms of work, this smart robot can also help humans in terms of education.
A journal published in the Pelita Bangsa Journal on "Analyzing the Effect of Implementing Artificial Intelligence" by Mohammad Azmi Abdussyukur from the Informatics Study Program, Faculty of Engineering, Pelita Bangsa University (ISSN: 2962-3545), explained that innovative AI Robots can be used as learning tools to improve various student skills.
Many researchers have indicated that learning techniques using AI robots can change the current educational system/approach and become a facility that takes students to a different learning environment.
AI robots can be used to improve students' skills in various fields, including problem solving, self-efficacy, creativity, collaboration/cooperative skills, and computational thinking (Chevalier et al., 2020). AI robots can also be used in various language disciplines, Mathematics and Science, and interdisciplinary STEAM.
Collaboration between human learning and thinking abilities with artificial intelligence-based robots will open up a lot of new knowledge and encourage technological progress.
The main advantage of AI Robots is the ability to think and interact with humans, as well as carry out tasks independently. Even though it has many advantages, there are a number of concerns that arise due to the existence of this AI Robot.
Types of AI (Artificial Intelligence) Robots
The idea of robots equipped with artificial intelligence systems is not just science fiction, but has become a reality. We currently find many types of AI robots in the real world, both in education, business and other sectors.
This robot is supported by AI and equipped with various types of sensors (for example 2D or 3D cameras, vibration sensors, accelerometers, proximity sensors, and environmental sensors).
This sensor data will then be processed and analyzed into information which then triggers a command/action. AI robots are able to help a business continue to innovate and progress, here are 3 general types of robots that are supported by AI:
1. Autonomous Mobile Robot (AMR)
The artificial intelligence contained in these robots allows them to: take information through their 3D cameras and LiDAR sensors, analyze the information, make inferences according to the mission, and move/act.
The tasks that can be carried out by the Autonomous Mobile Robot AI vary greatly, depending on the program configuration/settings based on industrial needs.
For example, the Autonomous Mobile Robot which is used to move objects from one point to another in a warehouse is able to avoid collisions by navigating its working system.
This can reduce the risk of damage or unwanted work accidents.
2. Robotic Arm
A type of AI robot with arms that is configured with artificial intelligence so that it is able to do the job as optimally as possible. This robotic arm is equipped with special sensors to detect and classify objects, the types of which are very diverse, for example SCARA.
AI robots are commonly used in industry for pick and place, sorting, packing, distribution of goods, and the like.
3. Cobots
It is an AI robot that can respond and then learn human speech and gestures. This advanced AI robot can be made in various shapes according to human needs.
Various Examples of AI Robots
The following are several examples of robots that use artificial intelligence:
1. AI Robot Sara
Sara is a humanoid robot (a robot with a human-like design) made by Saudi Arabia. The robot Sara appeared for the first time at the LEAP 2023 Technology Conference in the city of Riyadh.
Sara has the ability to speak various languages, receive orders, move quickly and dynamically, respond to emotions, and interact with humans.
Sara has the features of a 25 year old, 162 cm tall young woman wearing a black hijab who comes from Saudi Arabia.
2. AI robot Sophia
Just like Sara, Sophia is also a humanoid robot developed by Hanson Robotics in 2017.
Sophia has the ability to talk to humans, she has even appeared on various big events such as talk shows and at the UN. Sophia combines sensors from cameras, computer algorithms, and kinetic movements of her wrists and feet.
The AI Vision System in Sophia is directly connected to Synthetic Organism Unifying Language (SOUL), allowing it to process data quickly, make decisions and choose words based on the response of the object.
Apart from the two examples above, there are still lots of AI robots that you can find. Not only in the form of humanoid robots or cobots, but in other, more complex forms.
AI robots are robots designed with an artificial intelligence system, allowing them to have analytical and thinking abilities.
AI robots can be used for various purposes, starting from helping education, supporting human hobbies, and especially for industry/business in carrying out certain jobs.
The existence of AI robots is a form of revolutionary discovery that indicates increasingly rapid technological progress. Even so, our human resources must also be truly up to date and learn AI developments quickly so that they are not easily replaced in the future.
