Childhood of Ahmed Deedat
According to Wikipedia, he was born on July 1, 1918 and came from a poor family. His father worked as a tailor and because of that profession his father migrated to South Africa when Ahmed Deedat was just born.
So between 1918 and 1926, Ahmed Deedat did not live with his father and on the advice of his mother, in 1927 or exactly at the age of 9 he followed his father to South Africa to live with.

As a child, the Muslim scholar Ahmed Deedat did not have time to receive formal education and with all the limitations he had such as economic and English language barriers, he struggled hard to be able to adapt.
Thanks to his perseverance in learning, as a result, young Ahmed Deedat managed to overcome all the obstacles he faced, especially the language barrier in just 6 months. One of Ahmed Deedat's advantages when he was young, he loved to read so it is not surprising that his adaptation process could be said to be fast.
In order to help his family's economy which was tight, Ahmed Deedat was forced to leave school and work in a Muslim shop. The shop where he worked was opposite Adam's Mission, a school that educated its students to become Christian missionaries.
Well, while working in the shop, almost every day Deedat was visited by Christian missionaries. They never stop insulting Islam with various dirty insults.
Narrated by Ahmed Deedat in an Al-Majd International documentary video entitled The Story of Ahmed Deedat in 2022, the Christian missionary's insults have aroused a deeper curiosity about Christianity.
He then seriously studied the comparison of religion between Christian and Islamic books. He devoured many books and literature from both religions.
His high interest in the teachings of Islam and Christianity inspired him to increase his knowledge in an autodidactic way.

Interfaith debate
Over time, the Muslim scholar Ahmed Deedat grew up and in 1942 he joined an organization called the Islamic Propagation Center International in Durban, South Africa. He was appointed president of this Islamic organization until 1996
Here, as a Muslim scholar, Ahmed Deedat sharpened his preaching skills by focusing on comparative religion, especially Islam and Christianity. His desire to conduct interfaith debates was inspired by a book he accidentally found entitled Izhaar ul Haqq (revealing the truth) while still working at a Muslim shop as told earlier.
The book he found contained question and answer material, as well as Islamic debaters' arguments against Christian missionary attacks in his home country, India. Then a few weeks later, Ahmed Deedat bought the Bible for the first time and began to debate prospective missionary students.
In 1940, after Ahmed Deedat felt that he had enough knowledge about the Bible and the Qur'an, for the first time he went up to the podium to preach with the theme, Muhammad Sallallahu alayhi wassallam, the Messenger of Peace at an Avalon Cinema in Durban.
Not only preaching, theology school teachers who used to mock him were approached and challenged to have interfaith debates.
He has successfully published approximately 20 book titles, then distributed millions of copies for free throughout the world. For his efforts so far in the field of comparative religion, in 1986 King Faisal through his foundation awarded Ahmed Deedat an international award.
Ahmed Deedat was the teacher of the Muslim scholar Zakir Naik from India too. His role in comparative religion is not much different from the footsteps of maestro Ahmed Deedat.
Continuing to the topic of Sheikh Deedat. The first opportunity to visit abroad was obtained in 1976. At that time, a good friend of his, Ebrahim Jadwat, invited him to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia to attend a congress.
While in Riyadh, his friend Ebrahim asked the Arab television crew to conduct an open interview with Sheikh Deedat. The request was laughed at and they said, why should I interview Sheikh Deedat, here we have 60 great Islamic scholars. In short, Ebrahim's interview request was finally granted, Ahmed Deedat appeared on Arab television.
Thanks to his dynamic personality, quite entertaining and having extensive knowledge about Christianity, Sheikh Deedat has fascinated the Saudi Arabian world.
Offers to debate across religions began to arrive, for example in July 1985, Sheikh Deedat agreed to be invited to debate with an American missionary named, Prof. Floyd E. Clark, at the Royal Albert Hall in London.
This debate attracted the attention of Muslim tourists from all over the world so that it immediately became the center of attention.
After the debate, Ahmed Deedat began to drift in a debate tour between countries such as Morocco, Kenya, Sweden, Australia, Denmark, and the United States. Eight thousand audiences attended the debate between Sheikh Deedat in America with Jimmy Swaggart, the theme was, "Is the Bible the Word of God?"
On May 3, 1996, still in the documentary video, Sheikh Ahmed Deedat fell ill. He suffered a stroke "lock in syndrome" so that he was paralyzed from the neck down, as a result he could no longer communicate. Sheikh Deedat was flown to King Faisal Hospital in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia to be treated and taught how to communicate.
In 2005, precisely on August 8, in the city of Verulam, South Africa, the greatest Muslim scholar in the world passed away. Sheikh Deedat had been adventuring in the vortex of comparative religion for approximately 87 years. His footsteps were continued by the disciple of Zakir Naik until now. God willing, Jannah Ahmed Deedat, amen
