QUDSI HADITH: UNDERSTANDING AND DIFFERENCES WITH NABAWI HADITH

Qudsi hadith is a term that perhaps not many Muslims understand, and sometimes it can be confusing to distinguish it from other hadiths.

The number of qudsi hadith is not large, and not all Muslims know about them.

Even though there are not many of them compared to the Nabawi hadith, very few people study them because they are not recorded like the Nabawi hadith.

Understanding qudsi hadith

Quoting from the page kbbi.kemendikbud.go.id, the qudsi hadith contains the revelation of Allah SWT to the Prophet Muhammad saw, but the language was expressed by the Prophet using his own words.

In other words, the prophet Muhammad proclaimed the revelation that Allah SWT conveyed to him.

In Islamic teachings, all hadiths have an important position because they are the second source of law after the al-quran, including qudsi hadith.

The contents of a hadith are actually all the words, actions or everything that the Prophet Muhammad SAW did during his life as a manifestation of the contents of the quran.

In a history, the Prophet's wife, Sayidah Aisyah RA, was asked about her husband's morals, she answered that the Prophet's morals were from the quran.

 

This is also confirmed directly by Allah SWT in surah al-qalam: 4 And indeed you truly have great character.

This revelation from Allah SWT is agreed by commentators as praise from Allah SWT to Rasullulah SAW.

The difference between qudsi hadith and other hadith 

Currently, in Islamic teachings there are a number of authentic hadiths that are often used among Muslims.

For example, the hadith of Bukhari, Muslim, Abu Dawud, Tirmidhi, Ibn Majah.

The status of all hadiths is valid, meaning that their contents can be accounted for because they are connected to the words of the Prophet Muhammad SAW. Even the person who told it had no defects in his words or actions.

It was said at the beginning that the kudsi hadith was a revelation from Allah SWT to Rasulullah, so the revelation was not conveyed through Allah SWT's courier as usual, namely the angel Gabriel, but was revealed directly to the Prophet Muhammad SAW.

So what is the difference with the quran? because the Koran was revealed by Allah SWT to the Messenger of Allah.

So, here are some basic differences between qudsi hadith and the quran

1. Al-Quran, the way it is pronounced and its meaning comes from Allah SWT, but in the qudsi hadith the meaning comes from Allah but the language comes from the prophet himself.  

 

2. Benefit reading the quran is counted as worship, but reading the hadith is not.  

 

3. The quran is a revelation from Allah SWT that the Prophet Muhammad received through the angel Gabriel. Meanwhile, qudsi hadith is a revelation that the Prophet received directly from Allah SWT without the intermediary of angels.  

 

4. The quran is a general revelation from Allah SWT given to Rasulullah where the Prophet Muhammad SAW was given the obligation to teach it to all mankind. Unlike the Qudsi hadith, it is more special, because it was given only to the Prophet, so it depends on the Prophet himself whether he wants to spread it or not.  

 

5. The revelations in the quran are recorded so that anyone can study them. If the qudsi hadith were never recorded, only the Prophet himself would know.

Then, regarding how many qudsi hadith there are, up to now there has been no agreement among the scholars.

There are some scholars who say the number is only hundreds, but there are opinions of other scholars who say the number is thousands.

However, what is certain is that only the Prophet Muhammad SAW himself knows the exact number of hadiths he received.
